Hot, Humid, Random Storms
CLASSIC DOG DAY AFTERNOON: Today’s weather is just what you expect in early August in Alabama. It is hot, humid, the sky is partly sunny, and we have a few random, scattered storms in progress during the heat of the day. Most of the storms are over North and West Alabama, they are moving very little, and will dissipate once the sun goes down later this evening. Continue reading
Hot/Humid With Isolated Afternoon Storms
TYPICAL AUGUST WEATHER THROUGH TOMORROW: Despite the fact that school begins this week for most systems, we are still in the hottest part of summer. At Birmingham, the average high is 91 degrees from July 13 through August 15. It slips back to 90 on August 16, and by August 24 the average high drops to 89.
With an upper ridge overhead, we project a high in the 91-95 degree range for most places today and tomorrow with sunshine through scattered cumulus clouds. A few showers and storms will pop up during the afternoon and evening hours, but they should be few and far between. Chance of any one spot getting wet today is around 10 percent, and 25 percent tomorrow. Continue reading
Showers Few and Far Between
**No afternoon Weather Xtreme today** RADAR CHECK: As expected, we have a few isolated showers over North Alabama today ahead of a surface front, but most places are hot and dry with temperatures in the low 90s. We do note … Continue reading
Mostly Dry Through Sunday; Lower Humidity Tomorrow
QUIET THROUGH THE WEEKEND: A surface front will push into Alabama from the north this evening; usually with this setup in late July you expect a number of showers and thunderstorms, but this time we have very limited moisture, and little dynamic support, so we are forecasting nothing more than isolated showers this afternoon and early tonight. Chance of any one spot getting wet will be around 10 percent… otherwise today will be partly sunny with a high in the low 90s. Continue reading
Generally Dry Through Sunday; Wetter Next Week
ANOTHER QUIET AFTERNOON: About the only shower activity across Alabama this afternoon is over the far southern part of the state… the northern counties are rain-free with a partly to mostly sunny sky. Temperatures are mostly in the low 90s, right at seasonal levels for late July in Alabama. The sky will stay clear tonight. Continue reading
Mostly Dry Through Saturday
DRY SUMMER DAYS: There is actually a touch of fall in the air over North Alabama early this morning; with dry air and a clear sky temperatures have fallen into the low 60s in spots… Fort Payne is at 61 degrees… and Cullman reports 62. We expect a sunny sky today with a high in the low 90s; any showers should be confined to the southern half of the state, and even there they will be few and far between. Continue reading
Showers Very Hard To Find This Afternoon
DRY FOR MOST: As expected, this day has been mostly dry across the great state of Alabama… at mid-afternoon we are seeing just a few small, isolated showers in a broad area from Montgomery to Lafayette… they are dropping south and will dissipate after dark. Temperatures are pretty close to 90 degrees. Continue reading
Lots Of Sun; Only Isolated Showers
TRENDING DRIER: Showers will be rather scarce across Alabama today and tomorrow as drier air works into the state; with increasing amounts of sunshine afternoons will trend hotter. The high today will be close to 90, followed by low 90s tomorrow. The chance of a shower is not zero, but for any one spot only in the 10/15 percent range. Continue reading
Drier Days Ahead For Alabama
RADAR CHECK: We have a number of scattered showers and thunderstorms in progress across Alabama this afternoon… most of them are east of a line from Huntsville to Tuscaloosa to Livingston, and they are moving slowly to the southwest. A few heavy downpours, but not much lightning and nothing severe. Showers and storms will end tonight after the sun sets. Continue reading
Scattered Showers Later Today; Drier Tomorrow
ANOTHER PLEASANT MID-SUMMER DAY: We project a high in the mid 80s again today (yesterday’s official high in Birmingham was 86) as a deep upper trough covers the eastern third of the U.S… the average high for Birmingham on July 24 is 91. We will see a mix of sun and clouds, and once again scattered showers and thunderstorms will develop this afternoon and early tonight. Showers will be more numerous over the eastern half of the state, mainly between 2:00 and 10:00 p.m.
