Back in town after a two-day trip to Starkville for the SE States Severe Weather Symposium. Driving back tonight in the 3340 Storm Chaser, James and I ran into much, much rain and occasional powerful lightning. Hope you saw some of the live video streaming as we returned, including audio at times.
Driving home from 3340 to my home in NE TRussville, steady light to moderate rain. When is exited off 459 onto US 11 in Trussille, I immediately noticed widespread power outages on both sides of US 11. Part of downtown Trussville was also out. I understand some of the power is back on now.
Bill has done a remarkable job but I now I need to give him a break. We will take turns watching the situation until the danger is over.
It was still pouring over NW Alabama late tonight from about Walker and Winston County northward. We are concerned by some stronger thunderstorms down over part of SW Alabama moving NNE. Those could give us some additional trouble before the night is over unless they weaken.
The drama is not over. A high probability of showers and thunderstorms again Saturday and a good chance on Sunday.
A Flash Flood Watch continues in effect for the rest of tonight until 6 am for a wide part of the area, including all of the Birmingham Metropolitan Area.
