CALM DAYS: Be sure and scroll down for some great images from our readers… love those fall shots from Kristie Calvin in Alaska. Can’t wait to see those colors around here deeper into the season.

A very benign pattern will continue through Friday. No major upper air or surface features around here, and just enough moisture to mention the chance of isolated afternoon showers or thunderstorms. If you like the numbers game, the chance of any one spot getting wet each day through mid-week is only about one in five. Afternoon highs will remain right where they should be this time of the year, generally in the mid to upper 80s. Some West Alabama communities will flirt with 90.

THE WEEKEND: The 00Z run of the GFS still shows a pretty dry look Saturday with only isolated showers, but showers and storms should increase Sunday into early next week as we come under the influence of an upper low to the northwest, and moisture levels increase.

TROPICS: Tropcial Storm Fred has formed in the far East Atlantic. Way out there, and it should turn northward and just hang around for a while, not a problem for any land mass. The low near the Outer Banks of North Carolina is interesting; not exactly a classic tropical system now, but is producing gale force winds. It will drift around for a while, and will need to be watched to see if takes on the classic warm core characteristics of a tropical system.

No sign of any issues for the Gulf of Mexico anytime soon; we do note a couple of runs of the GFS yesterday tried to get something going in the western Gulf in about a week, but that has vanished.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. You can even listen here on the blog; look for the player on the top left. We will post the notes on this week’s new episode shortly.
