NOT TOO HOT: A quick peek at 2:00 p.m. CDT temperatures around Alabama is pretty amazing; not a single site is at 90 degrees or above. The warm spot is Decatur with 89 degrees with a mostly sunny sky; Birmingham is reporting 86. Our dewpoint is down to 67, and we have a relatively dry north wind at 8 mph.

While the bulk of the showers are over the southern half of the state, we do note a few isolated showers now in the general area from Tuscaloosa to Jasper. These will fade quickly once the sun sets.

THE REST OF THE WEEK: Models are in better agreement now that we will need to mention a chance of scattered showers and storms tomorrow, mainly over East Alabama, east of I-65, where moisture levels will increase. West Alabama, most likely, will be capped off with warmer air aloft, and the chance of rain west of I-65 seems to be small for any one given point. Both the GFS and the NAM are now printing a high in the upper 80s tomorrow, so we might go four days in a row with highs under 90 degrees. Not bad for July in Alabama.

For Thursday through Sunday, I think there will be some of scattered, mostly afternoon and evening showers and storms along and south of I-20. The Tennessee Valley will most likely remain dry. Highs will be mostly in the low 90s as the core of the heat ridge remains west of Alabama. This is very typical July weather for Alabama.

LONG RANGE: The GFS continues the idea of the most significant heat in the nation well to the west of here; we are looking at seasonal heat and humidity levels for the rest of July with a few scattered showers and storms around from time to time. And, the Atlantic basin remains quiet, and there is no sign of any tropical storm formation this week.

BLANCA: The tropical storm in the eastern Pacific is weakening now west of Mexico, and will fizzle out by Friday. See the Weather Xtreme video for more.
