An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player below. You can subscribe to the Weather Xtreme video on iTunes by clicking here.

THIS MORNING: Another cool and refreshing morning for Alabama, with temperatures generally in the 45 to 52 degree range. Soon the long, hot, oppressive summer will be here and we won’t have many of these left. Gadsden is the cool spot at 4:00 a.m. with 46 degrees.

TODAY: A warm front will lift north across Alabama today, and could kick off a few widely scattered showers, but rain will be very light and spotty, and most places won’t see enough rain to measure. The high today will be in the mid 70s.

TO THE WEST: A major severe weather/tornado event is likely across the Southern Plains, where a high risk is defined by SPC near Tulsa. A moderate risk surrounds the high risk, and includes Oklahoma City and Wichita; see the Weather Xtreme video for details. It will be a storm chasers delight, but a dangerous situation. We will be watching with interest.

REST OF THE WEEK: An upper ridge takes over, meaning warmer and dry weather tomorrow through Friday. It will feel much like summer with highs in the mid to upper 80s and higher humidity levels. The warm air aloft associated with the ridge will prevent showers from forming.

WEEKEND PEEK: A weakening front will drift down in here from the north, and might kick off a shower or two in spots Saturday and Sunday, but no widespread rain is expected, and the weather stays warm and muggy with highs well into the 80s.

LONG RANGE: No sign of any really significant weather here through May 25. The core of the jet stays well north, so we might have a few days with a chance of showers, but no severe weather or heavy rain event shows up on global models for now. Temperatures above average, rain below average.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. You can even listen here on the blog; look for the player on the top left. We will record this week’s episode tomorrow night; we will be streaming that one live for the first time. I will post details on how you can listen tomorrow.
