A large mass of rain continues to move northeast across Central Alabama this morning.
It is pouring mercilessly and thundering loudly if you are underneath the heaviest part…which extends from…
…Sipsey to Morris to Moody and Pell City to Sylacauga then to just west of Rockford
Moderate to heavy rain covers a nearly 60 mile wide band on either side of that. Lifting northeastward.
A flash flood warning is in effect for Autauga and Elmore counties in South Central Alabama…including Deatsville…where several roads are closed due to high water.
Some new heavy storms have formed over northern Winston and Cullman counties, up around Double Springs and Addison and West Point.
There is some very heavy rainfall out there…nearly 0.40 inches just in the 10 minutes since I started writing this here in Trussville…and a total of 1.26 since midnight…so take that into consideration if you live in a flood prone area or have to travel…delay your trip and watch for rising water. Turn around, don’t drown is the motto.
My 7 day total is 6.74 inches.
A flood advisory (not warning yet) was issued for Jefferson and St. Clair Counties, which saw a lot of heavy rain last night.
It may become our mantra, if the computer models are right. The HPC folks are predicting 3-5 inches more over the next five days.
Two years ago, we would have given almost anything for this rain. So lets be thankful and stay out of its way! Stay safe out there!
I am going to lie back down until 430 or so. We will check things then… Thanks for burning the midnight oil with us!
