THIS AFTERNOON: We have a mix of sun and clouds across the great state of Alabama this afternoon, with temperatures in the 70s. No rain on radar, and we won’t be dealing with rain anytime soon.
TOMORROW THROUGH THE WEEKEND: A dry airmass remains in place; a large upper trough over the western U.S. and a nor’easter off the Atlantic coast won’t bother us, so we expect mostly sunny pleasant days and clear cool nights. Afternoon highs will be generally in the 79-82 degree range, with early morning lows between 56 and 61.
FOOTBALL WEATHER: No rain problems for high school football again this week; a clear sky tomorrow night and Friday night with temperatures falling through the 60s during the games.
Auburn hosts Western Carolina Saturday at 1:00; the sky will be mostly sunny with a kickoff temperature near 80 degrees; low 80s are likely by halftime time. Alabama is on the road; they will visit the Kentucky Wildcats Saturday evening (6:00p CT kickoff)… the sky will be clear. About 70 degrees at kickoff; 50s are possible by the final whistle.
GULF COAST WEATHER: Perfect weather through Sunday with sunny warm days and fair cool nights from Panama City to Gulf Shores. Highs in the low 80s; lows in the 60s. Should be hard to find a decent cloud in the sky this weekend during the National Shrimp Festival at Gulf Shores. Sea water temperatures are in the 78-81 degree range this afternoon.
NEXT WEEK: The latest GFS run brings in a band of showers and thunderstorms late Tuesday night into Wednesday ahead of a cold front, followed by a shot of chilly air. Looks like most North/Central Alabama communities will drop down in the 40s by Thursday morning of next week. See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, details, and graphics.
TROPICS: The wave over the East Atlantic remains disorganized this afternoon, but still some chance this becomes Tropical Storm Lorenzo in coming days. It will most likely recurve over the open Atlantic if it develops, far from land.
WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40.
