ABC 33/40 has a news crew in the Clanton area looking for damage right now. Reports are varied, but we understand that either straight-line winds or a small tornado caused some minor damage around Lomax. The true extent of the damage isn’t really known as I write this.

Here is a picture from Clanton around 11:10 AM. It does jive with radar data at the time with a weak circulation east-northeast of the Peach Water Tower off I-65 at Alabama 145. No warning was in effect at the time, but in defense of the National Weather Service, this was nearly impossible to see on radar. We had to hear the damage reports before it stood out at all as being a small-scale rotation.

A few more scattered storms could be strong or severe today, so we’ll be watching the radar!

This picture was taken by Clanton Fire Chief David Driver. This picture is taken from the area of AL Hwy 145 and I-65 looking North/NorthEast.
