I don’t think clouds have ever looked so beautiful on a Skycam shot…
It looks like we may have dodged a major bullet last night in the cold department across Central Alabama overnight. Clouds moved in during the evening hours, limiting the temperature fall and keeping readings closer to freezing at most locations. Some lows taken from hourly readings across the central part of the state:
31 at Birmingham
32 at Calera
An exception may have been eastern sections…
27 at Gadsden and Anniston
31 at Tuscaloosa
Northern sections were colder…
26 at Muscle Shoals
28 at Huntsville
24 at Decatur
25 at Vinemont and Fort Payne
23 at Meridianville
Of course, official lows could be a degree or so colder than the hourly observations show.

Still, it is exceptionally cold weather for April in Alabama, one of the coldest airmasses ever for this time of year.
It was 23 in Nashville and 19 at Savannah,TN, close to the Shiloh Battlefield.
A quick peek at our forecast this morning shows it is basically on track. Freeze watch for tonight for lows right around freezing. We could see a little light sleet or even flurries late tonight and early tomorrow morning as some overrunning precipitation from a disturbance along the Gulf Coast sends moisture up and into our very dry airmass. But most of it won’t ever make it to the ground. So you could see some radars that look like Christmas but not see very much at the ground.
It looks like showers for Tuesday and then storms on Wednesday with a chance they could be strong to severe. Not an impressive severe weather situation by any means, but one we will have to watch. A more impressive system heads our way next Saturday.
