The Tuesday edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme Video is available in the player below, and on iTunes:
It’s going to be a rather gray, gloomy day across Central Alabama today with little change to our temperatures. Currently very strong cold air advection is underway, so I do not expect to see temperatures climb very much. And with a solid deck of clouds we won’t have much help from the sunshine. Drizzle or perhaps some snow flurries will occur this morning, but I think the chance for precipitation this afternoon is very limited to the extreme Northeast sections of Alabama. But don’t look for temperatures to get out of the 40s today.
And it will be quite cold tomorrow morning. I expect the clouds will begin breaking from the west this afternoon with clearing skies overnight. The cold air advection plus good radiational cooling overnight will see temperatures drop back into the upper 20s. But Wednesday will be dry as will Thursday as temperatures recover.
Clouds increase on Friday ahead of the next storm system dropping into the southern Rockies. It will come our way on Friday, but the big impact will be a squall line on Saturday. Right now as I write this it looks like the best chances for rain will come late Friday and much of Saturday with a squall line moving west to east across the state during the morning and early afternoon hours of Saturday. And the upper level winds are looking favorable for potential severe weather. The SPC has outlooked a large portion of the Gulf coast area for severe weather for the last few days of 2006. We’ll be watching future trends in the computer guidance to see how this shapes up.
Wrap around moisture and colder air returns on Sunday and Monday as we get into the start of 2007. The weather looks dry for at least the first couple of days of the New Year.
As always, I appreciate you tuning into the Blog and the Weather Extreme Video. I’ll continue to be posting these on a schedule of one a day this week. I’ll try to have the video posted by 9 am each day. Have a great week.
