At least to me, because I love cold weather and I am not looking forward to summer at all. I know tons of other people choose summer as their favorite season and I totally respect that. Here we go with a long list of early morning lows around Alabama. Most are from ABC 33/40 Skywatchers (we could not do without them) Other reports from official NWS sites, private weather stations, Alabama Power network and Skycams:
19 Muscadine (below freezing about 12 hours)
21 Black Creek (heavy frost), Concord/Hueytown, Hamilton/NWS Coop Observer
22 Cottondale, Trussville, Talladega, Gaylesville, McCalla, Ashby
23 NE Jefferson, Mumford, Ft. Payne Airport, Lincoln, Rainbow City, Vigo
24 Coker, Crossville, Centreville, Sylacauga
25 Cook Springs, Pinson, Wadley, Moody
26 Remlap, Vinemont, Hamilton (Skywatcher), Reese City, Decatur, Alexander City, Jasper, Childersburg, Alabaster/Navajo Pines
27 Scottsboro, Decatur, Troy, Clanton
28 Vance, Anniston Airport, Evergreen, Muscle Shoals, Tuscaloosa, Meridianville, Cullman Airport
29 Huntsville, Montgomery, Livingston, Bankhead National Forest
30 Auburn, Shelby County Airport
31 SE Trussville on the ridge, Birmingham Airport, Huntsville/UAH
32 Selma, Albertville, Springville/Simmons Mountain
33 Mobile/Brookley Field, Dothan
34 Mobile Regional Airport
TEMPERATURE INVERSIONS
It was an ideal morning for temperature inversions, which happens when colder, heavier air settles into the valleys or low areas, while the warmer air is found on the high elevations. A few examples this morning:
36 downtown Tuscaloosa Skycam / 28 only about 3 air miles away at the airport
34 Hamilton Skycam / 21 NWS Coop Observer (same town)
32 Springville/Simmons Mountain while down along US-11 in Springville it had to be about 24
33 Gadsden/Noccalula Falls / 23 not far away at Rainbow City

CARIBOU, MAINE
If you will excuse my personal fascination with this city in North Maine, I would like to keep a running total on their snow situation. They have:
….32 inches on the ground now
….186 inches so far this season
….84 inches above the average amount for this date
….only 77 inches by March 25 last year
….low of 14 below zero this morning, a record for March 25
GREEN BAY (Home of my favorite NFL team because of a true gentleman, Bart Starr)
….82 inches of snow this season; average by this time only 48
….only 1 inch of snow still on the ground this morning
ROGERS PASS, MONTANA
I promise this is my last paragraph. I am very anxious to write my story about a long trip to Rogers Pass in the spring of 1954 only a few months after they had recorded 70 below zero which still stands as the all-time low for the lower 48. It was a very interesting trip. Matt Padget, in Moody, is especially anxious to see this story. Thought we were going to get arrested out on the remote plains of West Texas when Texas Rangers pulled us over and seemed to think we were on a drug run because of my Alabama license plate. We had our trunk completely packed with camping equipment, including some items in matchboxes. They made us empty every one and they inspected everything. I had never even heard of drugs. My drug of choice is a delicious frosted brown-sugar-cinnamon Pop Tart…
…more later.
