We’ve been watching a band of sleet & rain move over northern Alabama this morning. Sleet has been reported in Vernon, and although there’s no confirmation, it sure looked like about 30 minutes of a moderate sleet/rain mix in Cullman on SkyCam just before 7 AM.
Vic Bell up at Scrougeout in Etowah County reports some light ice on his steps, and with temperatures near freezing this morning, that’s the only real problem we expect. Some minor icing on steps & decks in Cullman, Blount, and Etowah Counties. You might even see it in Winston or Marion, but the bulk of any major issues would be north of US 278 where the temperatures may dip to 31 or 32 before the heavier precipitation moves away.
No advisories are in effect for Alabama this morning, but a Freezing Rain Advisory is in effect this morning for places like Cedartown and Rome, Georgia. If you’re traveling that way, be careful!
UPDATE 7:34 AM
Our Walnut Grove Skywatcher in eastern Etowah County reports ice hanging from the trees in that area.
