SUMMER-LIKE AGAIN TODAY: One more day of very warm weather for Alabama… lots of sunshine today with a high not too far from 90 degrees. But, to the north, some active weather is likely where SPC has a moderate risk of severe weather defined in the general area from Indianapolis to Cleveland.
TONIGHT AND THE WEEKEND: SPC actually has a slight risk of severe weather defined down the cold front this evening all the way to East Texas; that risk almost clips the northwest corner of Alabama. We believe the band of showers and storms on the front will fizzle out quickly late tonight, and by the time it reaches us we won’t see anything more than isolated showers in the 2:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. time frame. See the Weather Xtreme video and you will see our RPM model shows basically nothing for much of North Alabama, other than isolated showers for the northeast corner of the state.
Following the front, tomorrow will be cooler. The sky will become mostly sunny with a northwest wind in the 10 to 20 mph range. Both the NAM and the GFS are printing a high of 74 for Birmingham tomorrow. Then, we drop into the upper 40s early Sunday as CAA continues. Sunday looks cool with a high only around the 70 degree mark. The surface front to the south will begin moving northward as a warm front, and that could trigger a shower or two late Sunday or Sunday night, but rain should be very light and spotty. All in all a nice weekend ahead with a refreshing cool breeze.
NEXT WEEK: A strong ridge will build across Alabama and the Southeast U.S., which will deflect the primary rain producing systems to the north and west of the state. There could be a shower along the way somewhere next week during the afternoon and evening hours, but widespread rain is not expected. Highs will be generally in the 80s, and with higher humidity levels it will sure feel like summer. We might be up around 90 by mid to late week. We do note the possibility of a storm chaser special Monday with a risk of severe storms across Oklahoma and Kansas.
