TEN DEGREES COOLER TODAY: Most places around here saw a high in the low to mid 80s yesterday; we are forecasting highs in the low to mid 70s today with a fresh north breeze in the wake of a cold front that passed through early this morning. We have a few lingering showers over East Alabama’s Randolph and Chambers counties early this morning, but all of that will be into Georgia by 7:00 a.m. We also note there are some patches of dense fog, but the sky will become sunny today as dry air takes over.

NOT ENOUGH RAIN: Our SKYCAM up in Cullman reported 0.23″ of rain last night, and that was the heaviest around here. Most folks had less than 1/10th of an inch, and some spots didn’t see a single drop. To the north, NEXRAD data suggest some parts of Lawrence County had almost two inches of rain, but that was very, very isolated.

REST OF THE WEEK AND THE WEEKEND: Very nice weather is the story through Friday, with sunny pleasant days and fair cool nights. We will be in the 40s early tomorrow, and the high will be in the 77 to 80 degree range tomorrow and Friday afternoon. Humidity levels will remain low, and the fire alert remains in effect for all of Alabama.

OUR WEEKEND: Saturday will be rain-free with a partly sunny sky and a high around 80. Then, we will introduce the chance of a shower Sunday afternoon as moisture levels begin to rise. Any showers Sunday should be rather scattered around here, with the best coverage well to the west.

NEXT WEEK: Watch the Weather Xtreme video and you will see the 00Z GFS brings in a nice rain event, along with some thunderstorms, to our state late Monday, Monday night, and possibly into Tuesday morning of next week. Looks like we could very well see one-half to one inch of rain with this feature, followed by cooler and drier air Wednesday.

VOODOO LAND: Still looks like the pattern will be much more active as we get into November; the past few runs of the GFS have suggested a good rain/storm event in the November 1-3 time frame as we kick off our fall tornado season.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. You can even listen here on the blog; look for the player on the top left.
