An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player below, and on iTunes…
The surface cold front is about to pass through Birmingham as I write this update. A narrow band of showers has formed on the front, and will move out of the state later this afternoon as much cooler and drier air moves in.
No real change in our thinking; our weather will be dry through the middle of next week with very comfortable temperatures tomorrow and Friday. I like the GFS MOS temperatures; it shows a high of 76 tomorrow and 73 on Friday (a secondary shot of cooler air will arrive then)… followed by a low of 48 early Saturday morning. We note the NAM is suggesting that we drop to 46 early Saturday morning, which will be within three degrees of the record low for May 19.
We warm up a bit over the weekend with a high near 80 on Saturday, followed by low to mid 80s on Sunday. But, the humidity will remain low and the weather will simply superb for the Regions Charity Golf Classic at Ross Bridge.
NEXT RAIN EVENT: Unfortunately, the 12Z GFS has lost the strong upper trough in the May 24-25 time frame, but this run could be an outlier. One way or another, our next chance of showers and storms will come toward the latter part of next week.
LONG RANGE: The 12Z GFS continues to show a tropical storm in the Southeast Gulf of Mexico on June 1… this feature has been very consistent in model output for several days… makes you wonder if the tropical season will begin with a flurry of activity. Lets hope if something does form down there it will bring some beneficial rain to at least a part of the Southeast U.S.
