Looks like the coolest weather we’ve experienced since last May will be providing us with a beautiful Fall weekend. And the weather will remain dry while we experience a gradual warming trend through the end of the upcoming week.
For today, lots of sun and with that northwesterly flow, we should see highs climb to near 70. With clear skies tonight, the temperatures will plummet back into the 40s with some spots falling into the upper 30s. You have to go back to about May 18th to see lows in the 40s in Central Alabama.
The closed low at 500 millibars moves slowly eastward reaching the US East Coast by Tuesday. This allows a ridge to move over us so I expect to see highs in the lower 80s for Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. The ridge will stay with us through the end of the week and into next weekend while to our west a substantial trough digs into the Four Corners area. It appears likely that the surface high will keep us dry and mild for next weekend as well. So all in all, a great week ahead for Central Alabama with some mighty fine cool mornings for several days.
Tropics fairly active with Ophelia and Philippe on the map. Both are well into the Atlantic and both are expected to remain east of Bermuda, though Ophelia will be moving my just east of the island country.
No QPF to discuss with dry weather forecast through the upcoming week.
The long range forecast suggests an absence of any major weather changes. We should remain relatively mild to warm. There is some potential for a major trough to develop toward the end of the two weeks, but that really is a long way out.
