I don’t care how you slice it this morning, it is downright cold! Bill Murray has a discussion of the morning chill in the post below this. 18 for a low this morning at my house plus a new official record low for Muscle Shoals with 17. So it is quite brisk and definitely the coldest morning of the Fall season for 2008.
A fast moving short wave in the northwesterly flow promises to bring a few clouds across the Alabama sky today, but with little moisture, I don’t expect to see more than that.
With lots of sun today, afternoon highs should climb into the 50s which will be about 7 to 10 degrees warmer than yesterday. Sunshine continues on Sunday before we see clouds come in on Monday bringing a fairly good possibility of some rain. However, while the HPC folks are forecasting about half an inch of rain for much of the northern two-thirds of Alabama, I think the amounts may be a bit lower than that. I’d like to see a half inch of rain over the area, but I will take whatever can be wrung out of the atmosphere.
We dry out again on Wednesday with a day and somewhat cool Thanksgiving day in store for Central Alabama with lows around freezing and highs mainly in the upper 50s.
The ridge should hold on Friday, the busiest shopping day of the year! While the cool pattern remains, it appears dry. A new system brings the possibility of showers to the area on Saturday and Iron Bowl day. Not especially confident just yet that there will be enough moisture for many showers, so we’ll be keeping an eye on it.
One of the big changes is the GFS now shows a big trough over the western US which places the Southeast US in more of a southwesterly flow. If this happens as we enter December, then our temperatures will moderate and we should be at or slightly above seasonal values with the next rain chance around the 6th. But this is real voodoo.
