Okay, I’ll make this easy on myself this morning – see yesterday’s discussion!! With little change expected in our weather, I could just refer you to the discussion and video from yesterday. But I won’t.
The summer-like warmth continues with high temperatures expected to be 8 to 10 degrees above typical high temperatures for early October. And morning lows stay warm, too, with lows bottoming out around the upper 60s. But there are some changes on the way – I just don’t expect them to be dramatic.
A cold front is expected to arrive late Tuesday or early Wednesday. While this is our best shot at rain during the next seven days, it isn’t a really good bet. Any rain will come in the form of showers and with rather limited moisture, I just don’t expect to see much rain in our rain buckets.
Cooler air does not arrive immediately with the front but gradually settles into Central Alabama over the end of the week. By Friday we are likely to see highs and lows at or slightly below the typical values for October 12th. I would not classify the air mass as cold, but it will seem much cooler since we’ve been running so much above normal for the last week or more. Cooler and drier air also means no rain which we desparately need.
Tropics remain jittery but no signs of any significant development for the next couple of days. A weak, nearly stationary area of low pressure in the Western Caribbean seems to have the best chances for any development. The other two areas – one north of Puerto Rico and one easts of the Windward Islands – are not in favorable environments for any development right now.
Longer range forecasts do not hold much hope for any significant rain. Central Alabama comes back under an upper ridge around October 18th. A somewhat complex upper air pattern plus a moist easterly flow around October 21 and 22 bring some potential for rain.
Great time at the Women’s Show yesterday. Special thanks to Allie for teaching me to rumba. I wasn’t very good but I did NOT step on her feet, so I considered my foray onto the dance floor a complete success. I hope you have a great Sunday and enjoy the upcoming week. God bless.
