The line of severe storms over west-central Alabama seems to have intensified, and is starting to have the look of a line that may produce very high winds. There appears to be a bit of a “bow echo”, indicating strong winds pushing part of the line forward faster than the rest, and Doppler radar indicates inbound wind velocities greater than 70 mph. These values are being measured well above the ground, but storm downdrafts could bring wind speeds close to these down to the ground.

Large hail is also a concern, with golf ball sized hail already being reported tonight in NW Alabama. And, with the warm front nearby providing some extra wind shear, we still need to watch out for any rotating storms. They may be isolated, but still dangerous.
