Not quite as much rain across Central Alabama yesterday as I expected, and it looks like the last round of rain will be heading out of the area early this afternoon.
Already this morning the dew point has dropped to 47 in Northwest Alabama as the cold front moves steadily across the state from northwest to southeast. The wind is already out of the north over a large part of the state, so while the clouds linger the rain will gradually be ending from the west and northwest. The southeast sections of the state will get the most rain where a flash flood watch was still in effect through this evening. Amounts for much of Central Alabama will be less than a half inch today.
By this evening the dry air should be covering the central parts of the state paving the way for a beautiful Monday with good sunshine and highs only in the lower 70s.
Tuesday will be another great day with lower humidity, lots of sun, and a cool start. But the changes begin to occur at that time.
Yesterday the GFS was suggesting an upper low along with a weak surface low in the eastern Gulf. We now have continuity on that development, however, the GFS is a bit quick bringing that back into the Southeast. This means that my confidence is up a bit due to the overall pattern continuity, but the lack of continuity on timing does not boost my confidence way up. If the GFS is correct, then moisture is back in the weather picture by mid-week and that is where we stay since the weak upper low is well cut off from the westerlies. So the GFS solution is to keep the Southeast wet, wet, wet all the way through the weekend. Not all day rain but showers frequently.
And the GFS is like an old record stuck on one track as the weak upper low stays with us all the way through the first of June.
