Be sure and scroll down to see J.B.’s long list of rain totals across the great state of Alabama. What a soaking; one that was beneficial and appreciated.
TOMORROW AND WEDNESDAY: The upper ridge builds back on these two days, so any showers and storms should be widely separated. The weather will also be warmer; statistical guidance suggests low 90s tomorrow, and mid 90s on Wednesday. This is the middle of summer, after all.
THURSDAY THROUGH THE WEEKEND: The chance of wet weather will go up again on Thursday and Friday as the ridge breaks down, replaced by an upper trough over the eastern third of the nation. This will bring a surface boundary down in our direction, and at this time we expect scattered to numerous showers and storms Thursday and Friday, with highs dropping back into the mid to upper 80s because of the clouds and rain.
For the weekend, drier air will creep into North Alabama. On Saturday, it looks like most of the showers and storms will be along and south of I-59, or a line from Tuscaloosa to Birmingham to Gadsden. Then, drier air takes over Sunday, and most of North and Central Alabama should be dry with lower humidity levels. I would not be shocked to see some of the cooler spots reaching the upper 50s early Sunday and Monday morning; that rarely happens in the middle of summer.
NEXT WEEK AND BEYOND: Dry air continues to cover the area Monday, but moisture returns by mid-week with some risk of scattered showers and storms. Still no sign of any long-lasting period of excessive heat for Alabama through the end of July (upper 90s or triple digits).
TROPICS: The Atlantic basin remains quiet, and tropical storm formation is not expected through mid-week.
