The latest edition of the Weather Xtreme Video from ABC 33/40 is available using the player below or from iTunes.

Saturday was an interesting day as showers got started early allowing for a couple of rounds of storms for some locations. I, unfortunately, got a ton of thunder and only a few drops of rain. But I’m optimistic that I may see more rain drops today. The reason for my optimism is the presence of a frontal boundary that is forecast to slide into the area today. This should help to enhance rain chances and perhaps increase the coverage of rain. Having been on the short end of rainfall for the last several days, I’m ready for my turn.

The upper trough responsible for bringing the frontal boundary into our area will swing by early Monday paving the way for dry conditions from Monday through Wednesday or Thursday. Dew points are expected to drop into the lower 60s Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday which should make the highs seems a bit less hot.

But we won’t enjoy the relatively drier weather for long as moisture levels begin to ascend again late Wednesday and into the end of the week. While the upper pattern flattens out a bit by mid and late week, we see the development of yet another strong trough that should bring a new front into the Ohio and Tennessee river valleys in about a week – the Sunday/Monday time frame.

And the GFS maintains a troughy pattern across the eastern half of the country well out into voodoo territory. The trough seems a bit too strong but we are way out there in the forecast cycle.

Bertha hardly moved at all last night, so the upwelling of colder air is taking its toll. The satellite presentation this morning does not look good and the NHC is forecasting Bertha to drop into tropical storm status later today. It should begin moving northward later today, too, so it will be moving ever so slowly away from Bermuda.

Plus there are a couple of new locations where cloudiness has increased, so those will be watched. One of those is just coming off the African continent as I mentioned yesterday.

I’m really excited about the ‘Betwixt and Between” mini-storytelling event at the Helena City Hall on Monday. I’ll be doing a little storytelling along with Sara Dubose as we warm up the audience for the featured headliner, Dolores Hydock. The program starts at 6:30 sharp, so get there early for a good seat since seating is limited.

James Spann will be back at the controls on Monday morning with the next Weather Xtreme Video. I hope you enjoy the rest of your weekend. God bless.
