STILL MOIST THROUGH TOMORROW: No real change in the airmass through tomorrow; very deep moisture stays in place meaning the chance of a tropical shower at just about any time. The heavier downpours will come during the afternoon and evening hours, and like recent days some neighborhoods will get drenched.
TO THE NORTH: A strong upper trough is pushing a cold front our way; SPC has the northwest corner of the state in a slight risk of severe weather for this afternoon and tonight; we will have to watch for strong storms late tonight moving in from the north. The system was responsible for 18 reports of tornadoes yesterday across the Midwest, including one that moved through the southern part of Minneapolis, Minnesota (scroll down for pictures). SPC does not have us in a formal severe weather risk tomorrow; if we do have late night storms tonight, it could be the best chance of strong storms tomorrow could be over the southern half of the state. Still, we will mention a good chance of showers and storms during the day tomorrow as the front pushes through.
WONDERFUL WEEKEND: Dry air takes over tomorrow night, and the weekend still looks delightful for August, with sunny days, clear nights, low humidity, and cooler mornings. The 00Z GFS is printing 63 for Saturday morning, and 62 for early Sunday. The cooler spots should reach the 50s, a very nice fall preview. The dry weather should last through the first half of next week; a few showers could show up by Thursday or Friday.
BILL IS BAD: Hurricane Bill is packing sustained winds of 125 mph, category three status. Seems like there is some southwest shear going on based on satellite images this morning. No change in the forecast track; Bill will move west of Bermuda, and east of the U.S. Atlantic coast this weekend. Scroll down for an interesting post on Bill from Dr. Tim Coleman. There will be some big time waves from the Outer Banks of North Carolina northward to Cape Cod and the coast of Maine this weekend. The rest of the Atlantic basin is quiet.
