ONE MORE ROUND OF STORMS: Today will be another warm, humid day across Alabama, with intervals of sunshine and the risk of scattered showers and storms, mostly this afternoon and tonight. We will rise into the mid 80s, and the chance of any one spot getting wet later today and tonight is about one in three. Then, showers and storms will increase in coverage tomorrow as the big upper low over the nation’s mid-section opens up and kicks out. While widespread severe weather is not expected, a few strong storms will be possible. And, the rain could be heavy in spots. The NAM is printing 1.24″ for Birmingham, while the GFS is drier with 0.75″. We note the NWS in Huntsville has opted to issue a flash flood watch for their counties (the Tennessee Valley plus Cullman County). It won’t rain all day tomorrow, but the rain could come at any time.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: The chance of any one high school football stadium getting wet tonight is about one in three, with the best chance coming over the western half of the state. We recommend taking rain gear just in case a shower or storm pops up. Temperatures will be in the upper 70s at kickoff. Tomorrow, Alabama will host Arkansas at 2:30 p.m. at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa. A few showers and storms are likely during the game with a kickoff temperature near 80 degrees. Then, tomorrow evening Auburn will host Ball State at Jordan-Hare Stadium at 6:00 p.m. Rain is likely at times during the game with a kickoff temperature in the mid to upper 70s. And, UAB is at Texas A&M tomorrow night for a 6:00 p.m. kickoff; the weather at College Station will be mostly cloudy with only a tiny risk of a shower during the game. The temperature should be in the low 80s at kickoff.

SUNDAY AND MONDAY: Drier air arrives late tomorrow night, and the weather should be dry Sunday and Monday, but still warm, with highs in the mid 80s Sunday and low 80s Monday. A secondary front passes through on Monday, but the air looks too dry for any significant rain.

Cooler air settles in by Tuesday as the high will drop into the mid 70s, and we should be well down in the 50s by daybreak Wednesday. The cooler spots should reach the upper 40s Wednesday morning, and you bet that will feel much more like fall. The dry weather weather will linger into Thursday, but the 00Z GFS shows rain returning to Alabama one week from today with a passing cold front.

TROPICS: A weak tropical wave is out in the East Atlantic, west of the Cape Verde Islands. Some slow development is possible, but most likely this turns north into the open Atlantic.

This morning I will be a celebrity waiter at a fund raiser for the Salvation Army at Canterbury United Methodist Church in Mountain Brook; this could be a true disaster. I will be back in the office by early afternoon, and the next Weather Xtreme video will be posted here by 3:30. Enjoy the day!
