Our weather sure looks dry here for the next six days in a row; that is pretty rare for April, which is one of our wettest months of the year in Alabama. We are looking at mostly sunny mild days and clear cool nights through the weekend, with highs mostly in the 70s and lows in the 40s. Birmingham’s rain deficit for the year is up to 11.41″, and will be over one foot by the weekend. We are considered to be in a “severe drought”, and we will have to wait until the latter half of next week for the next opportunity of rain.
The 00Z run of the GFS continues to show the next good chance of rain and storms on Thursday of next week (April 26; one week from today). It now brings in the next trough the following day, Friday April 27, and moves the rain out of here on Saturday (April 28), and shows no rain for Sunday (April 29). Once again, don’t get too hung up on timing of this rain so far in advance. This is race weekend at Talladega, and lots of people are looking at this, but we really won’t feel comfortable with a specific forecast until this weekend. Lets hope we can get some beneficial rain before the actual race weekend. It just might work out that way, but no guarantee.
