CALMER DAYS: As I write this during the pre-dawn hours this morning, rain continues across Alabama south of our surface front, which is near a Greensboro-Calera-Anniston line. But, it will finally have a nice southward push this morning, and the sky will become mostly sunny over the northern and central counties of the state today with a nice north breeze and rapidly falling dewpoints. You will really feel the difference tonight, and by early tomorrow morning most places will be in the 38 to 42 degree range. Tomorrow will feature sunshine in full supply with a high only in the low to mid 60s along with a cool breeze.
DRY WEEKEND: Our sky will remain cloudless over the weekend, with chilly nights. Saturday should be the coldest morning, when most places drop into the upper 30s along with a chance of some frost on those Halloween pumpkins. The colder valleys have a chance of reaching the freezing mark. The high Saturday and Sunday will be only in the low 70s with very low humidity.
RACE WEEKEND: The spring race weekend at Talladega was bothered by severe thunderstorms, but rain won’t be an issue this weekend. The Talladega Superspeedway will be bathed in sunshine Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. The high Friday will be close to 64, followed by low 70s Saturday and Sunday. Mornings will be pretty chilly, with upper 30s early Saturday, and low 40s Sunday. Monday also looks dry for the trip back home.
FOOTBALL WEATHER: Auburn will be on the road Saturday; they travel to Oxford to take on the Ole Miss Rebels (5:00 p.m. kickoff). The sky will be clear, with temperatures falling from near 70 at kickoff into the mid 50s by the final whistle. The Magic City Classic is Saturday at Birmingham’s Legion Field (the annual clash between Alabama State and Alabama A&M)… (2:30 p.m. kickoff) the weather will be nearly perfect with a sunny sky and a kickoff temperature around 72 degrees, falling into the low 60s by the end of the game. UAB travels to Hattiesburg to take on Southern Miss (11:00 a.m. kickoff), where the sky will be sunny with temperatures in the low to mid 70s during the game.
NEXT WEEK: Watch the Weather Xtreme video and you will see a deep upper trough forms over the eastern third of the nation by the middle of next week. The 00Z GFS shows more of an open trough as opposed to the closed upper low we have seen on recent runs, and it continues the trend of keeping the bulk of the showers east of Alabama. We will trend drier and cooler in our forecast; some places might have a hard time getting out of the 50s by Wednesday and Thursday of next week.
VOODOO LAND: The operational GFS (00Z run) shows our next major rain/storm event around November 11, but we all know that could and probably will change.
TROPICS: A disturbance in the Central Atlantic has a good chance of getting it’s act together, but it is in a position to move northeast, toward the United Kingdom in five days or so. Needless to say we won’t worry too much about that one.
WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40.

I am speaking this morning at Bethel Baptist Church in Moody to the senior adults… then later today I will be doing the weather live on ABC 33/40 at 5:00 and 6:00 from the new Shops of Grand River development in Leeds, which opens today. I should have time to crank out an afternoon edition of the Weather Xtreme video since we won’t be dealing with severe weather watches and warnings today. Enjoy the day!
