GREAT THANKSGIVING WEATHER: A nice, benign weather pattern will continue across much of the nation through the holiday weekend. Here in our state today, we expect a good supply of sunshine today with a high in the 60 to 64 degree range. Then, for Thanksgiving temperatures will drop about ten degrees as an upper trough sharpens up over the eastern third of the nation. Tomorrow will be sunny, but breezy and cool with a high in the 50 to 55 degree range. We will be around freezing at daybreak Friday, so you pre-dawn shoppers will need to bundle up as you head out. The weather stays dry and mostly sunny through the rest of the week with highs in the 50s on Friday, followed by low to mid 60s on Saturday and Sunday.
FOOTBALL WEATHER: Sure looks like a tremendous day for this year’s Iron Bowl Friday afternoon at Jordan-Hare Stadium in Auburn. The sky will be sunny with a kickoff temperature near 50 degrees at 1:30, then falling into the 40s during the second half as darkness falls over Lee County. Expect a north breeze at 6 to 12 mph during the game. And, for the high school football playoff games Friday night, the weather will be clear and cold with temperatures generally in the 40s. Some stadiums could be in the 30s during the second half, so a good warm jacket will be in order Friday night.
TRAVEL WEATHER: Most of the nation will enjoy some wonderful weather, much like Alabama. No major storm systems, severe weather, or winter storm issues to deal with. The best chance of significant rain today will be down over South Florida, and a few rain and snow showers are possible around the Great Lakes. For national Airport flight updates, go to this FAA site.
OUR NEXT RAIN: The weather turns wet Monday of next week as we all go back to work. A dynamic storm promises to bring a good soaking to Alabama and the Deep South; see the Weather Xtreme video for the graphic look. Every run looks different, and quite frankly we really won’t have a good grasp on the specifics of this system until Saturday. The 00Z GFS shows a deepening surface low moving from Greenville, MS to near Nashville, which would mean some potential for strong storms. But, instability values are very marginal. We will keep an eye on it in coming days. Cooler air moves in Tuesday and Wednesday; some hint of sharply colder air in here toward the end of next week.
WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. You can even listen here on the blog; look for the player on the top left.

We are going on the holiday schedule through Sunday, meaning one Weather Xtreme video per day. I will post one tomorrow, most likely, during the afternoon hours while many of you are napping after the big feast while football is on TV. If you are traveling, be very careful and enjoy the weather!
