THIS AFTERNOON: While clouds are hanging tough near the Georgia border, the sun is out over most of the state as drier air is pushing in from the west. A few showers are still over far East Central Alabama, but those will end soon, and the sky will become mostly fair statewide tonight.
TOMORROW THROUGH THE WEEKEND: Dry weather is the story, with mostly sunny pleasant days and fair cool nights. Afternoon highs will be in the 80-84 degree range, with early morning lows between 58 and 62. No risk of rain this week for high school football games Thursday and Friday evening, and for the in-state college games Saturday. We could see a shower late Sunday night as a weak surface front gets closer, but the weekend will be generally rain-free.
NEXT WEEK: The 12Z GFS is a little more aggressive with the risk of showers Monday over the northern third of the state, but I am not convinced we get that much rain as a weak front drifts in here and dissipates. Only a small risk of a shower Tuesday and Wednesday; highs hold into the low 80s as we begin the month of October.
TROPICS: Very quiet; tropical storm formation is not expected through the weekend.
BEACH WEATHER: Mostly sunny warm days and fair nights through the weekend from Panama City to Gulf Shores with highs in the 80s. Sea water temperatures are mostly in the low 80s.
JUST TO COOL YOU DOWN: Heavy snow is falling across high terrain locations of Wyoming, Idaho, and Montana this afternoon; the first big snow of the season…

I had a great time today speaking to the kids at Westminster School at Oak Mountain at Shelby County; be looking for them on the Pepsi KIDCAM on ABC 33/40 News at 5:00 this afternoon. I also enjoyed speaking to the juniors and seniors at Spain Park High School about our “no text and drive” campaign. Look for the next Weather Xtreme video here by 7:00 a.m. tomorrow….
