The wind is noticeable as the wedge continues to build in from the east.

As 1 o’clock these wind gusts:

SE 28 mph, Decatur
East 24, Birmingham
East 23 Anniston and Eufaula

The wind is likely stronger on the ridges this afternoon. Earlier we saw a gust to 44 mph atop Mt. Cheaha.

RAIN CHECK
A band of light rain extends from Cleburne, Coosa and Randolph over on the east side of the state southwestward to Washington and Clarke County in SW Alabama. However, much of that is evaporating before reaching the ground. The air is quite dry up to about 8,000 feet. The main rain is across about the west half of Mississippi. Moving NE but the system is taking its own good time about moving east.

ELSEWHERE
Only 2 inches of snow on the ground at Goodland, Kansas this morning. Winds are still strong in that section of the country–gusting between 40-50 mph out on the wide open plains of Colorado, for example. These rain amounts in the last 24 hours:

3.70 inches at Houston
2.11 Kansas City
2.16 Tulsa
2.83 Fort Lauderdale
6.89 Key West Airport
7.00 Key West NWS Office

NATIONAL LOWS
4 above at Laramie, home of the University of Wyoming (Pat Dye once coached there)
16 below zero Bettles, Alaska with 11 inches of snow on the ground.
