Clouds are beginning to thicken up again across Alabama and satellite photographs show that the thicker clouds extend all the way back into Texas. We are also watching a band of precipitation spreading eastward from Louisiana and North Mississippi into Central Alabama.
Temperatures are still in the low to mid 30s to our west. Light sleet has been reported at Starkville, Miss. just over the Alabama border. Based on radar returns, there is probably some light sleet falling also over parts of Pickens, Greene and Hale Counties in West-Central Alabama.
Our latest thinking for the new afternoon forecast is to mention some intermittent light rain mixed with sleet tonight. The dew point is still quite low and the precipitation could cause some evaporative cooling. We cannot rule out a little bit of light freezing rain toward daybreak, especially from near Birmingham eastward. The better chance of that will be over the eastern sections. This could cause a few icy spots, but at this time we do not see a widespread travel hazard.
We must remember that with a brisk north wind, bridges and overpasses chill faster. Bottom line is we will watch it and lose more sleep. Weather humans are not supposed to sleep anyway.
