We did not get as many showers and thunderstorms this morning as we anticipated. The line of showers and storms seemed to partially dissipate by the time they reached Alabama, but there was plenty of rain across Central Mississippi this morning and also plenty of lightning.
Early this afternoon, showers were redeveloping over North and Central Alabama, including some moderate to heavy ones over the extreme NE. We can still expect scattered showers and thunderstorms to continue through this evening.
We do not think the total rain amounts will be anything like yesterday afternoon, where there was significant flash flooding in the Anniston area and also in the Pinson/Chalkville area of NE Jefferson County. There was plenty of flash flooding yesterday in extreme NW Alabama in the western part of the Tennessee Valley.
I am still awestruck by the 10.90 inches of rain over a two-day period at Rogersville in Lauderdale County.
TWO MORE ADDITIONAL REPORTS
We received these reports this morning:
3.60 at Trimble in SW Cullman County. We appreciate Chuck McAfee sending this. His father has been faithfully and carefully recording rain amounts in the Trimble community for many years.
3.40 inches yesterday afternoon as reported by Debby Clayton near where Jefferson/Blount and St. Clair Counties join. She calls her community the tri-county area. She also reported that some roads in the Chalkville area were practically underwater.
