The more numerous showers/thunderstorms were over Extreme North Alabama early this afternoon. At 12:50 pm, the areas with the best chance of getting wet:
North Walker County
Winston County
Cullman County
Morgan County
Madison County
Jackson County
NWS/Huntsville issued a Significant Weather Alert for Morgan County until 1:15 pm. They did that because of a strong thunderstorm east of Falkville moving NE at 10 mph. In the path of this storm there could be one inch of rain with some roadway flooding possible and strong wind gusts to 40 mph. Lightning has also increased in those thunderstorms.
Significant Weather Alert also for Limestone and Madison County until 1:30. Same reasons.
A shower has developed near Downtown Birmingham and there was a lone heavy shower over South St. Clair County south of I-20 and moving toward Cook Springs and Pell City.
Look for quite a few of those “Significant Weather Alerts” this afternoon. SPC advises that some of the storms will become quite strong but since they are the pulse-type (quickly grow strong, then fade) that a watch will probably not be issued.
RAIN SO FAR
0.63 Crestline section of Birmingham (in only 10 minutes)
0.38 Springville (Simmons Mountain)
0.27 Jasper
0.26 NE Trussville
Probably much heavier amounts over Winston/Walker/Cullman
