The Storm Prediction Center has issued a special discussion for a good part of Tennessee and Kentucky and the Tennessee Valley area of North Alabama.

They do not anticipate a formal severe thunderstorm watch, but they advise there is a risk for isolated damaging winds and marginally severe hail through early to mid afternoon as thunderstorms move generally eastward across that area.

NWS/Huntsville has an ongoing Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Lauderdale County–the most north westernmost county in Alabama until 12:45. There was a warning earlier for Lawrence County.

NWS/Huntsville has also issued a Special Weather Statement to cover some other thunderstorms (this is also known as a Significant Weather Alert which is short of a formal warning). The alert for Morgan County goe until 12:45 p.m. and Limestone County until 1:15. Radar shows scattered strong thunderstorms, mainly over the western part of the Tennessee Valley and they seem to be moving generally eastward. The thunderstorms are a bit more numerous over NE Mississippi.

Further south, some widely scattered showers were developing as far south as Shelby County into East Alabama’s Randolph County. There were others in parts of Walker, Winston and Cullman Counties.

These showers and storms will be developing and diminishing on a fairly rapid pace, so these blog updates can get outdated fairly quickly.
