As daybreak is upon us, the weather is very quiet across Alabama. In fact, at 5:50 am, no showers were in progress across the state.

Scroll down for some earlier post including one with a map showing the broad Moderate Risk area that includes a large part of Alabama.

The Storm Prediction Center plans to expand the Moderate Risk later this morning especially to the north and northeast.

They also plan to issue a special public statement concerning potential severe weather. SPC only issues those when a major outbreak is expected.

Here in Alabama, our greatest danger will come tonight and extending into early Sunday. A line of intense and dangerous thunderstorms will move into West Alabama tonight ahead of a strong cold front. Widespread wind damage may occur.

However, individual thunderstorms will probably develop out ahead of the main squall line and those can be especially dangerous.

Bottom line, this may be our most potent severe weather threat of the season. It is essential to keep in touch with fresh weather information. Scattered storms will also be developing later today ahead of the most dangerous ones tonight. Some strong tornadoes are possible in this event also.

We will post the specialstatement from the Storm Prediction Center as soon as it is released.
