Not much change in the Alabama weather situation during the last hour.
Still getting a number of reports of light sleet mixed with rain.
However, temperatures are in the 40s over most of the state except upper 30s near the Mississippi border and over Extreme NW Alabama.
The temperature will fall slowly overnight. Outside chance of some temperatures near 32 toward daybreak mostly east of Birmingham. That COULD result in a bit of bridge icing.
Most of the precipitation will be out of here by mid-morning Thursday, maybe earlier.
We will have frequent updates. Also, a little later this evening we will post some travel weather information along all of the interstates leading out of Birmingham.
You will know it is sleet when the little ice pellets bounce around on your deck, roof of your car after hitting the surface. Freezing rain is regular old rain, except that it freezes soon after making impact and clings to everything like glue.
It also builds up weight and, if there is enough of it, it will bring down trees and utility lines. It only takes a small amount of freezing rain to make you skid on bridges and overpasses.
Tonight we expect a mixture of light rain and light sleet, but as the temperature gets closer to freezing near daybreak, there could be some brief intervals of freezing rain.
We will be hanging out with you so check this blog frequently.
