Emily barely remains a tropical depression this afternoon about 300 miles southeast of Charleston SC.

It is moving northeast at 17 mph.

Nearly all of the forces that battle tropical cyclones are arrayed against Emily:  strong wind shear, cooler water and a nearby frontal system will all contribute to the storm’s demise later today.
