Colder air continues to pour into Alabama from the west and NW.
The low pressure area that gave us a very windy day is now centered along the Kentucky-Ohio border and moving NE.
THE SNOW FLURRY SITUATION
We never did have much of a chance and the chances might have lessened even more. We have in hand new upper air data. The freezing level over Birmingham is about 4,000 feet but there is a layer of drier air above that. We would really like to see the temperature at 5,000 feet down to about 27. It is about 31 now.
Also, we need surface temperatures to be down into the mid 30s to have much chance. It may be after 6 tomorrow morning. By that time most of the moisture may be too far NE and east of our area. We do have a report of a few flurries in Ashville (St. Clair County) earlier this evening. Reported by the 3340 Sky Watcher.
There is still a chance of a few flurries, mainly over the extreme north but I certainly would not sit up all night looking for them.
The NWS in Memphis and Jackson is expecting a few flurries in places like Amory, Columbus and Tupelo.
OUR NEXT BIG STORM SYSTEM
Late in the week with the heaviest rain late Friday, Friday night and Saturday. Too early to tell if there is a chance of flurries at the tail end of that event.
The winter is still young. I am not a snow lover but I know a lot of our readers are so I hope we get a snow this winter just for them. I actually enjoy seeing a few inches maybe one time per winter.
