Our weather continues to be Fallish with the start of November. Those crisp mornings and warm afternoons continue to roll along for Central Alabama as temperatures slowly moderate – at least the lows moderate with not a lot of change in our afternoon highs. Chilly start today, though not as chilly as recent days.

An upper trough/low will scoot by to our south. While this might normally generate some rain concerns, the atmosphere is just too dry. So with the exception of some passing clouds, we will keep our sunny days with the afternoon highs through the next several days in the lower and mid 70s.

For us the main weather action will come on Thursday. A large upper trough comes out of the western US on Wednesday that is expected to drag a front across our area during the day Thursday. The GFS has been oscillating on this system, but it appears now that the main energy with the system will eject northeastward on Wednesday and Thursday taking the biggest weather threat well north of here. However, the front is expected to have enough moisture to work with to produce some showers, but I think the rainfall will be limited.

Severe weather parameters here don’t look very strong at the moment, so we’ll continue to keep a wary eye on this system. The current forecast sweeps the front through quickly, paving the way for another great weekend as the coldest air is shunted off into New England and the Mid-Atlantic region.

Voodoo land remains relatively quiet for the Southeast US with another frontal system projected to impact the area around the 14th or so.

STORM ALERT XTREME: Our annual spotter training event, Storm Alert Xtreme, is coming up on Saturday, November 15, at the BJCC during the annual Birmingham International Auto Show. James Spann, Dr. Tim Coleman, and I will be presenting information valuable to people interested in severe weather and severe storm spotting. I encourage all of our Skywatchers to attend this every year; you simply cannot get enough training. We will begin at 9:30 and be out by 3:30. And, everyone that attends Storm Alert Xtreme gets free admission to the Alabama International Auto Show. There is no admission charge and no need to register. Just show up, but get there early for a good seat. We had a packed house last year.

I had a great time visiting Talladega last night. My wife and I went to see ‘Mark Twain Tonight’ at the historic Ritz Theater in downtown Talladega. They had a packed house and Hal Holbrook was magnificent in his portrayal of Mark Twain. I’d suggest you go to the show tonight, but I understand it is already sold out. His one man show has been called a ‘National treasure’ and I can see why.

I hope your weekend will be as wonderful as the weather. The next Weather Xtreme Video should be posted by 8 am or so tomorrow morning. Godspeed.
