It is a brisk morning in Central Alabama with temperatures in the 40s. Much of the fog is gone though a few patches may still be noted as much drier air has settled into the Southeast. Dewpoints were running in the lower 40s. That drier air means that we should see lots of sun today with a beautiful blue sky. The afternoon temperatures should reach the 70-degree mark – one of our cooler days so far this Fall season.
Great weather is expected for the next four to five days. Temperatures will slowly moderate after a very cool start tomorrow morning. I would not be surprised to see a few of those typically colder spots coming in with readings in the upper 30s and some patchy frost to go with those readings.
The upper trough will move away from us today and Sunday as it is replaced by ridging aloft. But a new, potent upper level cold core low is forecast to drop into the Central US around Wednesday and begin affecting us by Thursday and Friday. Timing might change a tad, and I’m sure concerned about the strength of the upper low. If the GFS is correct on the strength, we might see some severe weather in the Southeast US. We’ll certainly want to watch the model evolution on this system for the next several days.
The upper closed low stays with us into next weekend before finally exiting the area Sunday. This could mean a period of several days of unsettled weather. Severe weather is not out of the question since our Fall severe weather season is typically in November but can begin in late October.
Our temperatures should moderate through the week with highs in the 70s and lows gradually working into the 50s by mid-week.

I’m off to Attalla in Etowah County for their annual Heritage Day. If you have a chance, come on out and enjoy the festivities. I’ll have the Storm Chaser there and would be happy to say hello. The next Weather Xtreme Video should be posted here by 8 am tomorrow morning. Enjoy the day and Godspeed.
