This challenging forecast environment will continue through Saturday… one this is for sure, this is isn’t a dull weather pattern if you are a forecaster. Let’s break it down one period at a time:

TONIGHT: Rain seems pretty unlikely for most of Alabama tonight. The warm front has moved well to the north of Alabama this afternoon, pushing the showers up into Tennessee. In the wake of the front, sunshine has popped out in some areas pushing temperatures up toward the 80 degree mark. There is very little on the radar, and we just don’t see a trigger for rain tonight. I guess a shower could pop up somewhere, but most high school football stadiums tonight will be dry.

TOMORROW: It will be a mild and breezy day, with temperatures rising into the mid to upper 70s, maybe touching 80 in a few spots. A shower can’t be ruled out, but much of the day should be dry, and the sun will break out at times. The main band of showers and storms will remain west of Alabama tomorrow, where severe storms are possible through parts of Mississippi and Louisiana. A strong storm could move into Southwest Alabama late tomorrow night. For the high school football games tomorrow night, a shower is possible, but not likely. Most stadiums will be dry.

SATURDAY: Looks like a good rain event from about midnight tomorrow night through early afternoon Saturday. Most of the rain will be post-frontal, meaning it will be a cool and wet day. Temperatures Saturday will hover in the 56 to 60 degree most of the day with occasional rain. No severe weather, no flooding, just rain. And, the 12Z GFS suggests the rain will end from west to east during the afternoon, meaning the trick-or-treaters have a decent shot at doing their thing with no rain. But, no promises here… model inconsistency has made this a very difficult forecast.

SUNDAY: Still looks like a delightful fall day, with a sunny sky and a high in the mid 60s.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: We can’t rule out a shower in spots tonight and tomorrow night, but most high school stadiums will be dry. Game temperatures will be mostly in the upper 60s. For Saturday’s Magic City Classic at Legion Field in Birmingham (2:30 p.m. kickoff), rain is likely during the game with temperatures hovering in the 57 to 60 degree range. The rain could be gone by the second half. Auburn will host Ole Miss Saturday morning with an 11:30 kickoff; the sky will be mostly cloudy, and rain is likely during that game with temperatures between 55 and 60 degrees. UAB is on the road at UTEP in El Paso, Texas (2:00 kickoff); the sky will be sunny with a kickoff temperature near 65 degrees.

TALLADEGA WEATHER: For Saturday’s Mountain Dew 250, the weather will be cool and wet with periods of rain and temperatures only in the upper 50s. Sunday still promises to be a very nice day for the Amp Energy 500 with ample sunshine and a high around 67. The threat of any severe weather at the Superspeedway has greatly diminished.

NEXT WEEK: Looks like dry and pleasant fall weather for most of next week with seasonal temperatures.
