From the Alabama Forestry Commission…

Fire Alert Still in Effect

Despite much needed showers last night across portions of North Alabama rainfall totals were not enough to warrant lifting the fire alert that has been in effect since September 23, 2010. According to fire officials with the Alabama Forestry Commission the rain brought temporary relief but it was not enough to eliminate the threat of wildfire.

Currently, debris burning and residential trash combined are the leading cause of wildfires in the northern half of the state. Although, these type fires are not permitted by the Commission and do not fall under the Fire Alert restrictions someone setting a fire can still be held responsible if that fire is allowed to escape. The Alabama Forestry Commission is urging all residents not to burn until conditions are more favorable.
