Widespread rain across Alabama late tonight, except for the SE part. It is literally pouring from Pickens, Hale, Greene and Perry Counties southwestward.

The NWS continues a Tornado Warning until 10:30 for:

SW Perry
Eastern Marengo
South/Central Hale

This includes the city of Linden. Doppler radar indicated a severe thunderstorm that could produce a tornado 9 miles south of Linden moving north at 40. There was a report of a tornado touchdown at Dixons Mills in South Marengo County. State troopers are en route to check.

NWS also has a Flash Flood Warning for Choctaw, Clarke and Washington Counties in SW Alabama until 3:45 a.m. It is estimated that 2 to 4 inches of rain has already fallen over that area. There is the possibility they could get 4 to 6 inches additional rain overnight. This could be a serious flash flood situation.

BIRMINGHAM METRO AREA
Some of the heavier rain is now spreading into the Birmingham area. It was pouring over SW Jefferson County and moving steadily NE. Virtually all of North Alabama was getting rain. It was light to moderate in intensity, but some spots of heavy rain.

RAINFALL AMOUNTS
A lot of places have already received more than 1 inch, but down in SW Alabama it has been much, much heavier. We will try to post some amounts later tonight. At the moment, we are snowed under with the weather at hand.

Looks like it is going to be another long night in the weather office.
