Several clusters of storms aligned roughly in a line from just northeast of Tupelo to near Hytop had developed in the afternoon heat. The heat is helping to make the storms severe with damaging wind the biggest threat along with lightning.
Just before 3 pm, strong to severe storms were located between Rogersville in Lauderdale County and Athens in Limestone County, just north of Moulton in Lawrence County, and just east of Huntsville. All of these were under warnings.
A cluster of storms was located over Madison and Huntsville but the warning for that area had been cancelled.
One presently small storm was also developing just west of Vernon straddling the AL/MS line.
Elsewhere across Alabama, it was just plain hot with temperatures running in the mid 90s and dewpoints in the mid 70s. Heat indices were running between 100 and 105.
