Skies are sunny across Alabama at noon on this Independence Day 2009.
Temperatures are warming toward highs in the lower to middle 90s. It was 87F at Birmingham, 89F at Tuscaloosa and 84F at Anniston. It was 82F at Gadsden.
A disturbance was moving through Missouri. Showers and storms were over Missouri and Illinois.
There is a slight risk of severe weather today from southern Indiana and Illinois through western Kentucky and Tennessee and into extreme Northwest Alabama, then westward into Oklahoma.
This risk will translate southward on Sunday, including the northern two thirds of Alabama.
Most lawns across the area could use two inches of rain right now. We could average an inch tomorrow with a few lucky spots getting a little more.
We should remain high and dry through this evening. Only an isolated storm or two should form.
As moisture surges into the area tonight, we could see a shower or storm after midnight. It will also become more humid.
Showers and storms will be likely on Sunday with wind damage a possibility.
It now appears that the front will reach I-20 by Monday morning, with a few lingering showers and storms over areas east and southeast of Birmingham. Storms will be limited to South Central and South Alabama on Tuesday. We should be dry through Wednesday. Storm chances will return to the forecast by Thursday.
So while an overall wet pattern doesn’t appear likely now for the first half of the week, we will be thankful for what we get tomorrow.
Have a safe and happy Fourth! Remember the sacrifices of our founding fathers. Eat lots of barbecue and be careful with those fireworks!
