Thanks to ABC 33/40 Skywatcher Kristie Calvin for these images… she writes:

“Hi James:

I hope everything is well in Alabama. We are settled in North Pole, Alaska. The weather here has been very warm, for Alaska standards. We have had highs in the 80’s and 90’s most of the summer. It has also been very dry. The result of no rain is numerous wild fires around the state. We have at least four that are burning within 50 miles of us. More that 700,000 acres in total have burned in the Interior. The last week has been extremely bad for smoke. We have been under a Dense Smoke Advisory for several days. Visibilities are less than one mile. Today, we have had light drizzle with temperatures in the 50’s. This is only making the smoke worse. We need a good wind to blow it out of here.

On Monday, we drove south to Denali National Park where the smoke was minimal. I took a few photos of Mt. McKinley and a caribou we found on our hike. I also took some pictures of the smoke we are enduring.”
