This note is from Steve Elliott, my son who is with Birmingham Fire Department, Station One, Downtown:

Saw that you are still up updating the blog. Here’s my report. I can tell you that the city fire department has been wide open since around 2AM. Have seen a lot of trees down and heard reports on Fire Department radio of dozens more.

We made a call out in Graymont with a tree on a house with a woman trapped inside, her house was virtually destroyed. Heard alot of other trees on houses and some trees on cars with people inside.

Have not seen any injuries personally. I slept through the main wind gust as my first run was around 3, driving around looks a lot like one of our hurricane aftermaths. I agree with your assessment that there will be thousands of trees down.

P.S. GET SOME SLEEP MMAN!!!
