From our wonderful friend Tom Skilling in Chicago….

The area is headed into a deep arctic freeze with Wed night’s single digit temps to roar in on powerful west/southwest winds 20-45 mph Wed.

The mammoth storm will send waves of snow across the area amid falling temps Wed. 36 states under winter wx advisories late Tue as a result of this unusually intense storm set in motion by a 120-degree US temp north/south temp spread.

NW suburbs have been hardest hit by snow–but it’s even worse in Wi, NW IL, IA, NE and KS. One of our former interns, now working in Lincoln, NE calls to report snow drifts there are 3-4 ft. high.

Several inches of snow due here Wed. Temps just north of ND had dropped under -20 Tue evening. More, including new photos, on our WGN Weather Blog!

Stay warm and safe everyone!
