At 10 am the cold front had inched into Alabama. According to surface observations, the front seemed to be along a line from Fort Payne to just south of Cullman to just south of Columbus, MS. This puts places like Muscle Shoals, Florence, Huntsville, Hamilton, Double Springs, and Decatur in the cooler air. Air behind the front was running in the lower 50s while temperatures from Birmingham southward were generally in the lower 60s.
The wind had shifted around to the north behind the front with gusts into the 20s. Tupelo reported gusts to 35 mph during the last hour which makes that cooler air feel that much colder.
If you are headed out this morning you may want to be sure you have a jacket. With the warm weather we’ve had for the last several days, it would be quite easy to get caught today without that jacket and be a tad chilly.
Front does not have a lot of push but will probably settle somewhat further south today before stalling as it becomes oriented parallel to the upper flow. Then we’ll be waiting on the really wet event for late Friday and Saturday. Hopefully all the rain will be ending Sunday.
