QUIET WEATHER: Let me say up front there could very well be a few showers on the radar during the afternoon hours today and tomorrow, but they should be few and far between. Look for a good supply of sunshine, with a high today in the upper 80s, and we will be close to 90 tomorrow as summer-like warmth returns after our one day break yesterday. The chance of any one spot getting wet today and tomorrow is only about one in ten.

FRIDAY AND THE HOLIDAY WEEKEND: Watch the Weather Xtreme video and you will see the 00Z GFS has trended toward a moist airmass in place over Alabama; runs earlier this week looked much drier, with even some hint of lower humidity and cooler nights by Sunday and Monday. So, forecast confidence is not especially high at this time; let’s want on the 12Z global runs before we make any big changes. For now we will broad brush the forecast for the weekend with typical early summer weather conditions; partly sunny, warm days with some risk of widely scattered afternoon showers or storms. The latest GFS MOS product shows highs over the weekend in the 86 to 90 degree range.

NEXT WEEK AND BEYOND: No serious change through much of next week, although by June 5-8 the GFS continues to hint at an upper trough over the eastern seaboard, that just might bring some cooler air down into Alabama. Of course, we don’t use the word “cooler” often through the summer months of June, July, and August. That trough might vanish on future funs, but there has been some decent consistency over the past few days.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. You can even listen here on the blog; look for the player on the top left.
