Rumbles of thunder in the distance greet the day here in the Trussville weather office. Radar confirms this, with fairly widespread shower and thunderstorm activity from Blount, Jefferson and Walker Counties back through much of Tuscaloosa, Fayette and Lamar Counties.

The heaviest storms were over Blount County near and west of Oneonta; over northern Birmingham from Tarrant back to Adamsville and south of Jasper.

More heavy rain and storms were over northeastern Mississippi.

A couple of cool fronts and upper level disturbances will conspire to give us a rather wet day across Central Alabama. The GFS predict 1 inch of rain for Birmingham. The NAM is much lighter.

IN THE TROPICS
The disturbance about 600 miles east of the Windward Islands is becoming better organized and a tropical depression could form today. It is over warmer water that will get warmer and shear is light this far south. All of the model model is clustered on a track that carries it northeast of the islands. The intensity guidance is all over the board, from weak tropical storm to category two hurricane, but there is a good chance this is going to be Erika.
